Raquel Alvarado, DNP, RN, NE-BC

Assistant Professor/Clinical

Dr. Raquel Alvarado joined the nursing faculty at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio as Adjunct Faculty in January 2020 and was appointed as a full-time Assistant Professor/Clinical in January 2021. She brings extensive clinical and leadership experience to the School of Nursing, with more than 10 years of experience in nursing leadership. Dr. Alvarado is board certified as a Nurse Executive through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Her clinical background includes critical care, home health, case management, and nursing education. In addition, Dr. Alvarado served four years as an officer in the Army Nurse Corps Reserves. Dr. Alvarado earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from San Antonio College, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of the Incarnate Word, and a Master of Science in Nursing in Nursing Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington, where she also completed a post-graduate certificate in Nurse Education. She later earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Chatham University.

Dr. Alvarado has mentored doctoral students as chair of Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) scholarly projects. Her teaching experience includes graduate (MSN and doctoral) and undergraduate didactic and clinical courses, including Nursing Care of the Family, Medical-Surgical Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Community and Specialty Nursing, Patient Care Technologies and Information Systems, Leadership and Management, Disease Management, and Healthcare Economics and Finance.
