Family Medicine Residency Program
Dr. Ali, an Associate Professor/Clinical, joined the faculty of the Department of Family and Community Medicine in August 2011. After graduating from Allama Iqbal Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan, Dr. Ali moved to San Antonio to attend her Family Medicine residency at UTHSCSA where she served as Chief Resident and received the STFM Resident Teacher Award. Dr. Ali teaches and mentors Family Medicine residents and medical students at Family Health Center and the Family Medicine Inpatient Service at University Hospital. Her areas of interest are Women‘s Health and Obesity Medicine. Dr. Ali also teaches medical students as a Longitudinal Pre-Clinical Student Preceptor and facilitates small groups of pre-clinical students. The 2013 Graduating Class of residents presented her with their “Best Mentor” Award, and the 2014 Graduating Class recognized her with "Silver Bullet Award" as their most respected teacher. She received “Best Mentor” and "Silver Bullet Award" by graduating class of 2015. Residency graduating class of 2017 awarded her with their "Outstanding Hospital-Based Teacher Award". Dr. Ali actively leads research and quality improvement projects and mentors residents in these activities in the Family Health Center. Dr. Ali‘s research focus, obesity prevention and treatment, was sparked by seeing so many of her patients suffer from obesity-related conditions. To better assist her patients with weight management, she became a diplomate of American Board of Obesity Medicine in 2015. She has served as PI on research projects funded by AAFP Foundation, TAFP and IIMS Community Engagement Small Project Grants program. Dr. Ali mentors residents in projects and disseminates her project outcomes at meetings of Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM), North American Primary Care Research Group (NAPCRG), American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), and Texas Academy of Family Physicians.
