Shaza Abass, BDS, MS, PhD, FFDRCSI-Ad Eundem
Dr. Shaza Abass graduated dental school with honors from the University of Khartoum and finished her Clinical Master’s in Orthodontics at the same university. She earned her PhD in Dental Sciences from Indiana University School of Dentistry and a Certificate in Research Ethics from the University of Maryland. In 2006 she began her tenure at the University of Khartoum as an assistant professor and later as an associate professor of orthodontics. She also served as Head of the Division of Orthodontics and then as Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Khartoum. Dr Abass coordinated the postgraduate program and led the curriculum committee at her institute. In 2022, she was honored with the Fellowship of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (FFDRCSI-Ad Eundem) for her significant contributions to the field.
Dr. Abass’s research interests are diverse, including root resorption, clinical trials on orthodontic treatment models, oral clefts, quality of life, bimaxillary protrusion, dental education, and ethics in research. Her work has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals and has earned prestigious grants, including those from the EDCTP, the NORPART and, the NIH. Currently, she holds a full- time Assistant Professor role at UTHSA.
